different aspects of leishmaniasis control and research. Approximately
1200 persons attended these meetings.<br><br>

2. XVIII Annual Meeting of Applied Research in Chagas Disease (XVIII

Meeting of Applied Research in Leishmaniasis (VI Anual de Pesquisa
Aplicada em Leishmanioses), Uberaba, Minas Gerais Brazil. 17-20 Oct 2002,

In these meetings problems related to control are discussed.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Recommendations are put forward by specialist groups that serve as a back
cloth for control strategies. This was the first year that the <b>Philip
Marsden Prize </b>was awarded for the best poster on Leishmaniasis.

Two renowned Brazilian scientists (Zigmund Brener and Odair Genaro)
passed away this year.&nbsp; Both made many important contributions to
the understanding of leishmaniasis. There were special sessions in their
honour recording both their personnel and professional lives. <br><br>
